WARNING – Don't give out BANK ACCOUNT NUMBERS TO ANYONE!
Today I received a phone call from a Senior Citizen in Oregon
. She had just hung up the phone with a man named Michael Johnson who told her that unless she gave him her checking account numbers her Medicare Part D Plan for 2008 would be cancelled. He also told her that unless she gave him this information right then, she would be billed for $900, and would not be able to get her prescriptions filled. He also had her Social Security Number. She does not understand how he got this information. He was trying to SCARE her into this SCAM!
She told him absolutely NO! Then she got on the phone and called me. I told her to please call the Centers for Medicare and make a fraud report and also to call her local police department and the TV stations to make sure that other Senior Citizens are aware that these SCAMS are going on!
PLEASE, PLEASE, NEVER GIVE OUT THIS KIND OF INFORMATION OVER THE TELEPHONE. THESE PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO STEAL MONEY FROM YOU.
WHEN YOU JOIN A MEDICARE PART D PLAN THERE SHOULD BE NO EXCHANGE OF MONEY!! You will be billed directly from your drug plan or you can have the premium taken out of your Social Security check each month.
If you recieve a call such as this, don’t just say NO and ignore it. Let someone know your have had a call like this so that others are warned.
This time of year Senior Citizens need to pay extra attention to these matters since it is the Annual Enrollment Period.
These kinds of crooks should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. I hope they are caught, and SOON!
