Wal-Mart Adds 11 Generic Drugs To $4 Program

This time of the year many Seniors are falling into the “donut hole”. The fear is that some of these Seniors will not continue to take their needed medications because of the rising cost during this period.

Wal-Mart has added 11 generic drugs to their list of $4 prescriptions that now total 361 available in that program. These are for a 30 day supply. The added medications include treatments for glaucoma and fungal infections. download bullet boy online

According to Wal-Mart CEO Bill Simon, the program has saved customers and the U. S. health care system $610 million (New York Times, 9-28). Paul London, an economist working with the company, said drug makers are going to have to change the way they approach the pricing of brand-name drugs as generics become more available. (USA Today, 9-28)

Other store chains, including Kmart, Publix and Target have advertised similar programs.

If you find yourself in the “donut hole” check to see if your medications are on the list. Also, as we have mentioned before you can buy your generics off your drug plan before you even get to the “donut hole”. This will increase your time it takes to reach this phase of your coverage.
