What Do I Do During the Annual Election Period for My Medigap Plan and My Part D Plan?

Yes, folks, it is that time of year again…. believe it or NOT.  This year people are in many different situations.  Some people are losing Medicare Advantage Plans because they are going out of business.  Some folks have had their Medigap plans go up in price and need help to save money on doctor and hospital coverage. Many of you are happy with your doctor and hospital coverage and ONLY need a Part D Drug Plan comparison. So this is the scoop…

1. If you only need a Part D drug plan comparison you can get one online now FOR 2011 at www.Medicare.gov  You can also request one from us, but due to the many thousands we are getting each year we cannot get back to everyone…but will do our  very best.  If you don’t hear from us…please try the Medicare website.

2. If you are losing a Medicare Advantage Plan and you are on disability and under age 65  please contact your local SHIP  (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) office to see what will be available in your area.  Many times there are no Medigap Plans available in certain states.  If you are OVER 65, you are guaranteed issue (no health questions) for a Medigap plan and we can help you find the lowest premiums in your state by calling 866-752-1795.

3. As always through the year when anyone is turning 65 we can help you find the best Part D plan and the best priced Medigap plan.

Are you in a Special Enrollment Period?

Special Enrollment Periods or (SEPS) are times when you can change or enroll on your Part D drug plan other than the open enrollment each year between November 15th and December 31st.

Losing coverage from an employer

Belong to a pharmacy assistance program provided by state

Recently returned to the US after living permanently outside the US

In last 12 months left Traditional Medicare Supplement to join a Medicare Advantage Plan for the first time

In last 12 months returning to Traditional Medicare Supplement after leaving a Medicare Advantage Plan

Please note: If you joined a Medicare Advantage Plan and are unhappy with it for any reason, you have 12 months to get back on a Traditional Supplement with NO underwriting or answering health questions. What should I do? I need a drug plan and it is not November 15 thru December 31!

VERY IMPORTANT: If you or someone you know has been hospitalized, is in rehab for an illness, has moved or has come in or out of a nursing home you can change your drug plan anytime throughout the year! You DO NOT have to wait till the annual enrollment period.

The annual enrollment period or AEP is November 15th thru December 31 of every year. You may have had new medications prescribed because of a new illness that are NOT covered under the plan you have now or you may want to see if you can get a BETTER PLAN. Call or email us today to see if you meet the qualification for a SEP or Special Enrollment Period.

List of SEP’s or Special Election Periods:

1. New to Medicare

2. Moved to a new state
3. Awarded State or Federal drug assistance
4. Coming in or out of a Long Term Care Facility or Illness Rehab
5. Lost drug coverage
