There is no such thing as “OBAMA’S DEATH PANEL”! When you actually read the section of the bill, they are talking about DOCTOR-PATIENT CONSULTATIONS ABOUT END OF LIFE PLANNING, such as drawing up a living will or planning hospice treatment. Please refer to my other blog about hospice care. YOU WILL FIND THIS BLOG IN THE CATEGORY SECTION ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THIS PAGE, UNDER “OTHER TOPICS OF INTEREST”? It describes “advance care planning”, clearly stating on page (424, lines 21-23) that this means a consultation between the individual and a practitioner. IT IS NOT ABOUT AN INDIVIDUAL AND THE GOVERNMENT.

Everyone needs a LIVING WILL!

If you do not have one, please ask your doctor. If you leave these kinds of decisions up to your family, many times they do not have the heart to do what needs to be done. We have all seen cases like this in the news and it gets blown totally out of proportion to the “real” situation. Most of us would not want to be kept alive for years or even months on machines when there is no chance of recovery.

Just a little COMMON SENSE would do us all some good! I’m sure many of you have had terminally ill members of your family and have gone through these gut-wrenching decisions.

Please remember that if it sounds ridiculous, it probably is ridiculous!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: ALL OF US COULD TAKE A LESSON FROM THE WEATHER. IT PAYS NO ATTENTION TO CRITICISM.

QUESTION:

My mother’s doctor has recommended hospice for her. I am not sure if this is the right decision for our family. He says there is no cure for her and she will continue to go down hill. Her life expectancy at this point is about 6 months. I am concerned about the cost of her care. What will Medicare pay for if she goes into hospice care?

robin hood prince of thieves movie download

ANSWER:
Choosing hospice care is a difficult decision. Your mother’s doctor has told you that she is terminally ill and will probably only survive another 6 months or less. Hospice is a special way of caring for people like your mother. The goal of hospice is to provide care for her and to manage her pain and other symptoms, not to cure her illness.

Your mother or her health-care representative will have to sign a statement choosing hospice care instead of other Medicare-covered benefits. Medicare will still pay for covered benefits for any health problems that are not related to her terminal illness. She will be provided with physical, psychological, and social and counseling services through hospice, and they also work with you and the rest of the family to help you cope with her illness. The hospice benefit will allow her to stay in the comfort of her home with family members and will endeavor to keep her comfortable. Discuss your concerns with the hospice team and let them help you with this decision.

Personally, I have had experiences with hospice with family members and they were a Godsend. After months or possibly years of caring for a sick loved one, the family is exhasted and possibly have been paying out of pocket for many expenses. Hospice will come in and help with taking care of your loved one and help with those expenses. Many times families do not want to have to come to terms of the finality of putting their loved one on hospice. It is very hard to admit that the end is near. However, once this is established, the help and services you and your loved one will receive from hospice will be immeasureable! They understand what you are going through and will be there to talk to and help you deal with your grief.

It is also hard for the doctor to give families this bad news and many times people who desperately need hospice care go for months without it. Don’t feel as if you are giving up on your loved one. You are just making sure they get the very best care in these circumstances.download american pie presents beta house

We spend more, but have less
We buy more, but enjoy it less

We have bigger houses and smaller families
More conveniences, but less time
We have more degrees, but less common sense
More knowledge, but less good judgment
More experts, but more problems
More Medicine, but less wellness

We have multiplied our possessions,

But reduced our values
We talk too much, love too seldom and hate too often
We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life
We’ve added years to life, not life to years
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back,
But we have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbors

We’ve conquered outer space, but not inner peace
We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul
We’ve split the atom, and our families
We have higher incomes, but lower morals
We’ve become long on quantity, but short on quality

These are the times of tall men and short character
Steep profits and shallow relationships
These are the times of more leisure, but less fun
More kinds of food, but less nutrition
These are the days of two incomes, but more poverty
Of fancier houses, but broken homes

It is a time when there is too much emphasis on our outsides
But nothing in the heart!

Please refer to my other blog about this for more details about why we are doing this….we had so many people come to the website for a drug plan comparison that were diabetics.

According to a Recent NAIC (National Assoc. of Insurance Commissioners) survey, the first wave of baby boomers turns 62 this year and are confused about how to begin their Medicare benefits. They are not sure what options they have concerning health care and prescription coverage.

Baby Boomers are Americans born between 1946 and 1964. Only 36% correctly knew that Medicare eligibility begins at age 65. 66% of respondents said they were”not very familiar” or “not at all familiar” with options such as Medicare Part B Supplements, Medicare Advantage Plans or Part D Drug Coverage Plans.

When you turn 65 or you are coming off of your retirement benefits you will need to get a Supplement to pay the 20% of your doctor and hospital costs that Medicare does not cover. Medicare only covers 80%. Then you will need to choose a Part D drug plan to help with medication expenses. There are many plans to choose from in each state and you will need a comparison based on your particular medications to make sure they are covered and at the lowest co-pay and premiums.

One thing that we all noticed during the Annual Enrollment Period when we were doing drug plan comparisons is that so many people are diabetic. We had so many drug plans that needed to cover insulin and other diabetes medications.

I have always wanted to do something to help the American Diabetes Association, not only for our senior diabetics, but I have had a personal loss of my husband, Paul, due to the complications from the disease when he was 35. He lost his eye sight and his kidneys failed. He developed congestive heart failure as well. We had been married for 16 years and had one son, Marcus, who is also helping Seniors here at My Part D USA. There are many diabetics who lose limbs due to the blood vessel damage that Diabetes does to your circulatory system. Diabetes is a horrible disease and robs many senior citizens of good health to enjoy their lives and it does the same to young people too!!You may have been touched by this disease and experienced how Diabetes can effect you or a loved one as well.

For this reason, I am putting together a cookbook called
COOKING UP A CURE FOR DIABETES. All proceeds will be sent to the American Diabetes Association. During this year, I will build the cookbook and it will be on sale begining Oct. 1st and during the Annual Enrollment Period, November 15th thru December 31st 2008, just in time for Christmas presents and Holiday gifts.

Beverages (smoothies, punches, coffees, teas) sugar free and regular
Cakes, Pies, Cookies, & Candy (sugar free and regular)
Breads, Muffins

We want to include lots of healthly receipes

free bandidas

for Diabetics and Non-Diabetes alike, so that everyone can enjoy this cookbook. I know that you have some great recipes that you would love to share for this great effort.

Please include your name, if you would like to do so and the city or state you live in. We want to give credit where credit is due.

There are many Baby Boomers taking care of their parents. They may live with them, and cannot be home all day to watch after them, cook lunches and simply be company for their loved one. Many times the cost of Adult Day Care can seem out of reach. gattaca dvd

There are more than 3,500 day-care centers across the U.S. They are growing every year because as the population lives longer, they need more care. These facilities offer many activities and social inter-action for seniors when their caregivers need to work or take a break. Adult Day Care is custodial care for seniors who cannot care for themselves at home. Activities can range from cognitive games for dementia patients to baking and art classes. They take care of their medication and physical therapy.

The federal Centers for Medicare Services last year began a 3 year pilot program that allows a portion of Medicare home health-care benefits to go toward adult day care. Uner the program, Medicare gets a 5% discount on what it otherwise would pay for a patient’s home-health costs. Medicare otherwise does not pay for adult day care.

If you or someone you know could use this service, please check into how Medicare could help you pay for this help.

Many of you have wanted information on eye coverage through Medicare.

Medicare covers most doctor services and routine medical care required to keep you healthy, however Medicare will only cover eye care in limited circumstances.

Medicare will only pay for a routine eye exam if you have diabetes. They will pay for an eye exam every 12 months to check for vision loss. If you are at high risk for glaucoma, they will pay 80% of an eye exam by a state-authorized eye doctor every 12 months, after you pay your Part B deductible. You are considered “high risk” if you:

* have diabetes

* have a family history of glaucoma

* are of African American decent and age 50 or older

* are Hispanic and age 65 or older

projectionist the dvd download

Medicare will also pay for certain non-routine eye-care services if they are related to a chronic eye condition, such as cataracts or glaucoma: download slither divx

* surgical procedures to help repair the function of your eyes due to these conditions. Such as, cataract surgery or replacement of your eye lens with a man-made intraocular lens.

* eyeglasses or contacts ONLY if you have had cataract surgery. If it is medically necessary, Medicare may pay for customized glasses or contact lenses.

* eye exams to diagnose potential vision problems.

Medicare will NOT cover regular vision problems we all face, such as near-sightedness or far-sightedness or pay for glasses to correct your vision.

I hope this helps clear up some of the questions you have had. It is a relief to know that if you have a medical condition associated with your eyes that Medicare will take care of the expenses for you!

My Part D USA can help you find a Medicare health plan that will pay the 20% of these charges that Medicare does not pay.
