Do I Need To Change My Medicare Supplement During The Annual Election Period for Medicare Part D?

If you are happy with your Medicare Supplement (your doctor and hospital coverage) you  do not have to change it now, however, it is a good idea to get a comparison if your Plan F or G has gone up in premiums!  I understand that many of you had increases this year.  Some of you find it more convenient to do it all at the same time. There is no need to pay more than necessary and we can help you with a quick toll free call to our office! 866-752-1795

Question and Answer Regarding Part D Drug Plan Comparisons

QUESTION:  Why has it been harder to get a Part D plan comparison based on my medications than when Part D first came out in 2005?

ANSWER:  When Part D was signed in to law by President Bush in 2005 many people were very confused about what drug plan would be best for them.  There are over 50 drug plans in each state and the prices vary in each state.  Each drug plan can decide from year to year what drugs they cover and if they cover them as brands or generics.  If you contacted your Insurance Agent or a Brokerage that was helping you with your Medicare Supplement, the Insurance Companies that carried the Part D plans would pay them a commission to help you.  This was an incentive for agents to assist you.

These companies have since stopped helping us help you!  They do not want you to be able to get a comparison easily.  Drug companies make much more money if you simply stay on their drug plan no matter how much the prices go up or which of your drugs they decide NOT to cover.

Also when your agent would send in a drug plan application to the Part D Provider, they would not send us confirmations and we could not be sure you would have your coverage for the next year.  They simply would ACT as though they never received it.  Not only is this a disservice to the Medicare beneficiary, but to agents who make their living trying to assist you.  In essence, Drug Corporations have made it impossible for us to do our jobs.

The only way to get a comparison is to go directly to Medicare at www.Medicare.gov.   Then you can enroll directly with Medicare to make sure your application is processed.

Here at My Part D USA, we still try to do as many free comparisons during the Annual Election Period as we can.  With millions of you out there, it is most impossible to help everyone personally.

Anytime someone is turning 65 and needs to learn how to understand their benefits, we take them through a comprehensive study of your Part D comparison and explain it thoroughly so that you will be informed for the future.

We always do comparisons on your doctor and hospital coverage any time of the year if you have received a price increase.

2013 Changes In Part D Plans

As in past years, there is no 2013 Medicare Part D plan that offers complete Donut Hole coverage.  However, now that we have the Donut Hole Discount, most of you will still be able to save some money if you fall into the gap, with a 52% brand name drug discount and a 21% generic drug discount.

Please be sure that you do not inadvertently join a Medicare Advantage Plan with a built in Part D plan.  We never recommend these type plans because even though they sometimes have lower premiums, you give up your choices for the best Part D plan and the doctors and hospital you want to go to.  You are not using your Medicare Benefits and are on private insurance.  Medicare has no jurisdiction over these plans and they can drop you or deny coverage at any time.

Since many of these companies also sell Medicare Supplements they can confuse you with the products they offer.  These are the companies you see on TV commercials everyday.  Please do not let them talk you into inferior coverage plans.  Remember they are making more money when you purchase a Medicare Advantage Plan, while you the consumer pay the ultimate price:  bad healthcare, less choices, and no oversight by Medicare.

The new Deductive for 2013 on Part D plans has gone up a few dollars to $325.00

You will enter the Donut Hole after you purchase $2,970.00 worth of prescription drugs, based on retail value.

Save the Most on Your Drugs As Possible by Applying for Medicare Part D Limited Income Subsidy

Since we are now in the Annual Election Period for Medicare Part D, October 15 to December 7th, it is very important to make sure that you have applied for any Part D subsidy programs.  If you have previously been on the subsidy program you need to re-apply each year to make sure you continue to receive extra help.

If your income is low enough to qualify or you wish to check, please contact your local Social Security Office.  You can call or visit them.  Tell them that you wish to apply for the Medicare Part D Limited Income Subsidy Program.  If you do not use those exact words, many times, they will not help you, or act as though they don’t know what you are talking about.  This is a special program that helps people with lower incomes and those on disabilities afford their medications.  Don’t be ashamed or afraid to check!  These programs are in place to help you!

After you apply, SS will send you a letter letting you know how much extra help you have qualified for and you must immediately call your Part D provider to get their fax number or directions on how to get them a copy of this letter.  They have to get it in order to begin your benefits!  Then you will need to re-apply each year before the Annual Election Period.

Has Your Medicare Supplement Gone UP in Price?

During this time of year we can help you make sure you have the best price and coverage for your doctor and hospital care.  Many people think all they need is a Part D comparison, but why pay more for your Medicare Supplement than you have to?  Medicare only pays 80% of your doctor and hospital costs.  If you are turning 65 and in your open enrollment, you cannot get turned down for coverage during those months no matter what kind of health issues you may be experiencing.  That is why it is so important NOT to get a Medicare Advantage Plan!!!  Start off with the BEST coverage available!!

If you are on a Medicare Advantage Plan, we can help you get back to a Medicare Supplement.  I called a particular company who advertises on TV and told them I wanted information on a Medicare Supplement which was the topic of the commercial.  Guess what they sent to me?  A booklet on Medicare Advantage Plans!!!  If you go directly to a particular company you will NOT get a comparison of all the plans available to you.  They can only sell you what they have.

If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, you cannot choose your doctors nor what drug plan is best for you!  You are not using your Medicare benefits but are being insured by a private company who can take away your benefits at any time.  If you have health issues, you may not be able to get through underwriting on a Medicare Supplement if you want to change later!  We can check this for you and do our best to get you back on Original Medicare.

That is why My Part D is a valuable resource.  We give you the information you NEED to make the best decision.
