Are YOU In A SPECIAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD

Are you in a Special Enrollment Period?

Special Enrollment Periods or (SEPS) are times when you can change or enroll on your Part D drug plan other than the open enrollment each year between November 15th and December 31st.

WE CAN HELP YOU during these times to get a cost comparison that will enable you to enroll on the drug plan that covers ALL your medications at the LOWEST co-pays. If you have been arbitrarily enrolled on a Part D Drug Plan because you were awarded “extra help” we can make sure the plan covers your drugs. Many times Medicare does not check the prescriptions you are taking before they enroll you on a plan for “exta help”. We will do that for you and change your plan so that ALL your meds are covered.

Toll Free – 866-752-1795

The SEPS are listed below:

Turning 65 and new to Medicare

Recently moved outside of the service area of current plan

Duel-Eligible or have BOTH Medicare and Medicaid or state help

Recently approved for Medicare Part D Assistance

Live in a Long Term Care Facility or nursing home

Recently “left” a PACE program

Moved out of a Long Term Care Facility or nursing home or rehab hospital

Recently involuntarily lost creditable drug coverage

Losing coverage from an employer

Belong to a pharmacy assistance program provided by state

Recently returned to the US after living permanently outside the US

In last 12 months left Traditional Medicare Supplement to join a Medicare Advantage Plan for the first time

In last 12 months returning to Traditional Medicare Supplement after leaving a Medicare Advantage Plan

Please note: If you joined a Medicare Advantage Plan and are unhappy with it for any reason, you have 12 months to get back on a Traditional Supplement with NO underwriting or answering health questions. Please call us toll-free at 866-752-1795 with any questions you may have about changing coverage.

Criticism of Medicare Part D Plans

There has been much criticism of the new drug benefit. Many people think that the Bush Administration gave a blank check to the drug manufacturers to charge high prices for presciptions on Medicare Part D Plans.

During this next election this will be an important topic to address. We believe that the drug manufacturers should have to bid prices to Medicare so that Medicare has more control of rising costs for seniors prescriptions! This should have been done when the bill was written but we all know how the insurance and drug lobbiests have so much power in Washington. Make your vote count in the next election to help lower drug costs in Medicare Part D Plans.

NOW, HAVING SAID THAT…….You cannot throw out the baby with the bath water. Seniors have help now! Most new benefits and bills could be improved and we should all work on that, but to say that this benefit is not helping is very wrong. We have seen Seniors all over the country save hundreds and thousands of dollars each year using their Medicare Part D Plans. Many Seniors still don’t know about the “extra help” they may qualify for such as the Medicare Part D Assistance Program.

We can help you with this by calling us or filling out a worksheet.

I heard an analogy on the new Medicare Part D plan that went something like this: A group of 10 geniuses locked themselves in a room to design a perfect racehourse. After a few hours they emerged NOT with a reachorse, but a perfect CAMEL!! Everyone was critical and disappointed at first…but came to realize that a camel could be a very “useful” animal once you get over the humps!!

DRUG PLAN PENALTY

NOVEMBER 15TH THROUGHT DECEMBER 31ST 42 MILLION SENIORS AND DISABLED CITIZENS ARE NOW ELIGIBLE TO CHANGE OR JOIN A PART D PLAN FOR THEIR PRESCRIPTIONS. DO YOU SPEAK MEDICARE PART D? SENIORS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR HELP WITH THEIR PRESCRIPTION DRUGS FOR YEARS AND NOW THAT THEY HAVE SOME HELP THEY MUST SURVIVE THE JUNGLE OF JARGON AND CONFUSING OPTIONS THAT ARE MAKING THIS NEW BENEFIT HARD TO COMPREHEND.

IF YOU WERE ELIGIBLE AND DID NOT JOIN A PART D PLAN LAST YEAR IN 2006, YOU WILL PAY A PENALTY OF 1% PER MONTH TO JOIN. NONE OF US KNOW WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS, AND EVEN THOUGH YOU MAY NOT TAKE ANY MEDICATIONS NOW, YOU WILL HAVE COVERAGE WHEN YOU NEED IT.

WE HAVE RECIEVED SO MANY CALLS AND EMAILS FROM SENIORS UPSET THAT THEY CANNOT GET ON A DRUG PLAN DURING THE LOCK OUT PERIOD. THE ONLY TIME DURING THE YEAR YOU CAN JOIN OR CHANGE IS NOV. 15 THRU DEC. 31ST. THEY SAY THAT THEY DID NOT NEED MUCH MEDICATION AND THOUGHT THEY DIDN’T NEED A DRUG PLAN, HOWEVER, A HEART ATTACK OR A DIAGNOSIS OF CANCER CAN RADICALLY CHANGE YOUR NEEDS FOR PRESCRIPTIONS. THEN THEY ARE SO WORRIED THEY CANNOT GET ON A PLAN AT THAT TIME. THEY HAVE VERY HIGH DRUG COSTS AND HAVE NO HELP IN PAYING FOR THEM. THAT IS WHY WE TELL SENIORS TO CHOOSE A DRUG PLAN JUST IN CASE THEY BECOME ILL AND NEED NEW MEDICATIONS. WE ALSO COUNSEL THEM TO FIND A VERY LOW COST PLAN. IF YOU ARE NOT CURRENTLY TAKING MANY MEDICATIONS YOU DON’T NEED AN EXPENSIVE DRUG PLAN. BUT DON’T PUT OFF JOINING ONE ALTOGETHER!

What should I do? I need a drug plan and it is not November 15 thru December 31!

VERY IMPORTANT: If you or someone you know has been hospitalized, is in rehab for an illness, has moved or has come in or out of a nursing home you can change your drug plan anytime throughout the year! You DO NOT have to wait till the annual enrollment period.

The annual enrollment period or AEP is November 15th thru December 31 of every year. You may have had new medications prescribed because of a new illness that are NOT covered under the plan you have now or you may want to see if you can get a BETTER PLAN. Call or email us today to see if you meet the qualification for a SEP or Special Enrollment Period.

List of SEP’s or Special Election Periods:

1. New to Medicare

2. Moved to a new state

To Change Drug Plans or Not To Change?

To Change or Not to Change?
That is the Question…

Medicare Part D Prescription
Plans for 2008

Beginning November 15 to December 31 of 2007 you will have a decision to make regarding your Medicare Part D Drug Plan. Should I change plans? Let’s take a look at the facts:

Every year, every drug plan changes pricing on their premiums and co-pays. They also stop covering some drugs and take on others. Last year one of the nations largest drug plans covered brands during the dreaded “donut hole”. They dropped that coverage and many people who failed to get a new comparison for the upcoming year were left paying a very high premium without that important benefit. Don’t let this happen to you! Educate yourself on the new prices for the drugs you are taking! Make sure that your plan will cover them at the lowest prices.

There are a few changes in the standard model for Medicare Part D Plans for 2008.

Deductible: Going from $265 in 2007 to $275 in 2008

Coverage Limit: Going from $2,400 in 2007 to $2,511 in 2008 (beginning of donut hole)

Out of Pocket Threshold: Going from $3,850 in 2007 to $4,050 in 2008

The government giveth and the government taketh away!

However, please don’t fret. You have an extra $1,011 before you hit the donut hole in 2008 and you CAN get a plan with No deductible. We also can give you hints and suggestions on how to save money on your prescriptions that can stretch out the time till you hit the donut hole even farther.
